October means Halloween and Halloween means costumes. When else can you get away with dressing up? Any day of the year, at least when it comes to uniforms.
Try working as an author: You’ll need comfortable clothes, a short story or essay idea, and a laptop. Spend the day writing and don’t stop until you’ve hit at least several thousand words. How does that feel? Can you see yourself doing this five or more days a week for months? For years?
Try working as a baker: Ask the owner of a bakery to let you volunteer for a day. Respect their generosity and treat it like a real day of work. How does that feel? Can you imagine yourself sweating over ovens, arms exhausted, with flour all in your hair? Can you see yourself doing that again and again?
Try working as a manager: Put together a small project and hire contractors to work on it. It could be a piece of software, a home improvement, or an event. Something with a clear vision of “done.” How does it feel to keep all of them organized and on task? Can you see yourself watching your phone for updates like a starving hawk? Can you picture yourself waiting like this for months or years?
Whatever you try, now is the perfect time to give it a shot.
