Inertia

Drift Compatibility

You have to start something if you want to continue doing something. You have to continue doing something if you want to improve at it. You have to continue improving at something if you want to master it.

You have to hesitate if you want to avoid doing something. You have to avoid doing something if you want to stop doing it. You have to stop doing something if you want to never do it again.

Make what you want to do easy. Seek out just enough help to get started, ideally from a real person who can hold you accountable, and get pulled through that inertia. Make note of where you hesitate and see what you can change or remove or fix about those steps so that your path remains smooth. Keep at it, day after day, recording what works and what doesn’t. Do more of the former and less of the latter until you succeed.

Make what you want to avoid doing hard. Seek out just enough accountability that you hesitate to do it again. Make note of when and where you lapse into old habits and see how you can stay away from those triggers or keep them out of your life. Keep at it, day after day, recording when you fail and when you succeed. Do less of the former and more of the latter.

Use inertia to your advantage.
