Quick Book Recommendations: June 2021

Already Free: Buddhism Meets Psychotherapy by Bruce Tift. Highly recommended for anyone, especially for those dealing with mental health issues. My existing experience with meditation and other mindfulness practices helped me appreciate its messages all the more. I recommend the audio book, read by the author.

The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers. A wholesome sci-fi novel focused on interpersonal relationships. Set in the same universe as Record of a Spaceborn Few and related titles. A refreshing focus on aliens solving problems with words instead of lasers. Another audio book recommendation. Rachel Dulude provides a pleasant, relaxing read in which every character stand out.

Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells. Another sci-fi novel, this time in the Murderbot Diaries series. More typical levels of violence for sci-fi adventure but with an engrossing focus on the inner life of the series’ titular cybernetic protagonist. Yet another audio book recommendation. Kevin R. Free does an excellent job of conveying Murderbot’s internal monologue.
